Sample itinerary – 10 days on the American west coast
Day 1 – Arrival in San Francisco
Arrival at San Francisco airport, pick up of the rental vehicle.
City discovery: Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman’s Wharf district, panoramic view from Twin Peaks.
Dinner in a local neighbourhood to start discovering the culinary scene of the west coast.
Day 2 – San Francisco & surroundings
Morning walk in the Haight‑Ashbury district or in the colourful alleys of the city
Afternoon in a urban park or a nearby nature reserve (Golden Gate Park or Lands End) for a first nature immersion.
At sunset, stroll along the waterfront of Sausalito, accessible by ferry.
Day 3 – Napa Valley, vineyards and quiet roads
Route to the Napa Valley, via less touristy back roads.
Visit to selected wineries (tastings, walk in the vineyards, typical lunch).
Opportunity for a short hike in a little-known regional park to alternate nature and wine.
Day 4 – Yosemite National Park (entry from the north or west)
Early departure for Yosemite National Park, one of the most beautiful natural parks in California.
Arrival late morning, first walk in the valley (Yosemite Falls Trail or stroll around Yosemite Village).
Sunset observation on the granite cliffs.
Day 5 – Yosemite, hikes and secret viewpoints
Day dedicated to moderate hikes (Mirror Lake trail, Mariposa Grove of giant sequoias, or view of Glacier Point depending on the season).
Opportunity to enjoy less crowded viewpoints recommended by the Sport Travel team.
Overnight on site or in a nearby small town.
Day 6 – Route to the coast: Big Sur and Pacific Coast Highway
Departure to the coast via scenic routes.
Arrival in the Big Sur, with a stop at Bixby Creek Bridge, McWay Falls and Pfeiffer Beach.
Overnight in a cosy accommodation, away from major tourist chains.
Day 7 – Big Sur & natural surroundings
Morning in nature: short hike in a coastal park (for example Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park or Andrew Molera State Park).
Free afternoon to enjoy the beaches, local cafés, and craft shops.
Dinner with a view of the Pacific Ocean.
Day 8 – Santa Cruz or Monterey – surf and seaside atmosphere
Route to Santa Cruz or Monterey, more authentic towns than the large metropolises.
Stroll on the Santa Cruz pier or visit the Monterey aquarium.
Opportunity to have a small surfing or paddle session depending on the season.
Day 9 – Los Angeles, culture and street art
Route to Los Angeles, with a possible stop at Santa Barbara for a seaside lunch.
Arrival in Los Angeles, exploring the trendy neighbourhoods (Venice Beach, Abbot Kinney, Downtown Arts District).
Evening dedicated to the street art scene, local restaurants and Californian atmosphere.
Day 10 – Last day in Los Angeles or departure
Option 1: last morning in Los Angeles (Griffith Observatory, walk in Hollywood, or Santa Monica beach).
Option 2: transfer to Los Angeles airport for the return flight, with the possibility of passing through a nearby small town for a final nature or gastronomic stop.
